Motherhood- let’s be honest, here; we love it with all of our being, but sometimes feel lost in the exhaustion and effort that it takes to embody this roll, PLUS do it in a way that is healthy. We get down right tired, throw in the towel, and spend the time when our little one falls asleep indulging in comfort food because we crave just that…comfort… and food.
Can you relate to this, Mama?
I feel you. I really do, because when I’ve hit this point, I’m exhausted and desire comfort food too.
One strategy to help you stay consistent with eating according to your own body that I talk about in my blog post, Stop Binge Eating With These Simple Steps, and more in-depth in my Intuitive Eating Journal For Moms, Eating To Happiness, is finding healthy replacement foods that make you feel good. This is a helpful action for us mamas! For one, it obviously makes you feel better than indulging on the normal cake. But, more importantly, it allows you to enjoy food with a sense of control.
In my experience, cutting your beloved every-night cake indulgence out of your life, cold turkey, just plain sucks! I also, often question why that kind of level of discipline is presented to moms who want to eat healthier. For that, there is no magic solution to making our desires disappear. We will ALWAYS have a lot on our plate (no pun intended), we will ALWAYS be tired by the end of the day, and we will ALWAYS crave what’s simple, easy, and comforting; I don’t believe in shoving those feelings aside.
Instead, I believe in meeting those feelings right where they are at and providing for their needs in ways that will make you feel your best.
The following, healthy comfort food recipes are made to meet you right where you are at and nourish your mombod so that it can feel good.

I love making these pancakes for my son and I on Sunday mornings or when we want a big, yummy breakfast. These are also great to take with you on road-trips as a mess-free, healthy toddler snack!
I often make these as a yummy side for dinner. These sweet potato fries also make a great healthy snack!
